Top Event Helps Boost Business in Wine World
With demand for wine and premium spirits continuing to burgeon in Asia, and particularly the Chinese mainland, the HKTDC Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair is the perfect place for sourcing, as well as tapping into trends and developments in the global drinks industry.

The show’s success is backed by Hong Kong’s international wine hub position which is proven track record of trading in wine and spirits. Participants at the fair come from far and wide. The 2012 edition attracted over 950 exhibitors from 36 countries & regions, while more than 20,000 trade buyers came through the doors during the show. Exhibitors hail from both Old World wine-producing countries as well as the New World, while buyers also come from an array of markets from mature to emerging.

Spain as the Partnering Country
The partner country for the 2013 edition of the show is Spain – a country with a rich heritage in wine-making. There will be a pavilion dedicated to Spanish wine companies, and there will also be a focus on Spain in many of the fair’s wine events and activities.

International Wine-trading hub
Hong Kong, with zero duty on wines, provides an environment conducive to wine-trading activities. As a city with an established “East meets West” vibe, it is a natural place for wine producers from the Old World and New World to connect with buyers from emerging economies in Asia, particularly from the Chinese mainland.

There is keen interest among drinks producers and suppliers to access the mainland market, given that wine sales there in 2012 amounted an amount of US$40.5 billion or 4.3 billion litres, up 125% and 55% respectively over five years age#. Hong Kong is the only place in the world that has entered into an agreement with the mainland Chinese Government, allowing wine imports to go into China under CEPA and enhanced customs facilitation measures. This makes the city an unrivalled gateway to China. Hong Kong, being a duty-free port with good air connectivity and storage facilities, is regarded by Asian investors as the most cost-effective and convenient distribution hub to store their investment-grade wines for delivery to their markets on demand.
